IBM will teach COBOL

IBM will teach COBOL to help unemployment systems

Unemployment systems across the United States are so outdated that they need to be updated.  However, there are not many COBOL programmers who can help.  To help train programmers, IBM is launching a COBOL training initiative.  IBM hopes to bring back old programmers in the swing of the things.

There is a new forum called "Calling all COBOL Programmers," intended to help new programmers connect with veterans.

There is another forum called "COBOL Technical Forum," where active and experienced COBOL programmers are available to provide free advice and expertise.

IBM is also building a brand new open-source COBOL training resource.  The curriculum was created with an unnamed higher education institute and it will be available next week for anyone at no charge.

MGM hack exposes 10.6 million guests personal data

10.6 million MGM Resorts hotel guests data hacked

ZDNet reported that the stolen information was posted to a hacking forum and later MGM confirmed the attack took place to BBC.

The exposed data included names, addresses, and passport numbers for former guests.

A spokesperson from MGM said, "Last summer, we discovered unauthorized access to a cloud server that contained a limited amount of information for certain previous guests of MGM Resorts. We are confident that no financial, payment card or password data was involved in this matter."

According to ZDNet celebrities like Justin Bieber, Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey, were impacted.

MGM notified its customers based on state laws but most US states do not require companies to tell customers if they were hacked.

In 2017, Marriott Hotels had a data breach exposing 500 million guests' information.

It is important for you and your family to protect your personal information.  Just like you have homeowner's insurance and car insurance, you should have insurance to protect your information.  A company like IDSeal can give you and your family protection from such data breaches.

How to protect yourself from coronavirus (COVID-19)

How to protect yourself from coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Currently, there is no vaccine to prevent coronavirus (COVID-19).  The best way to prevent is to avoid being exposed.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.  Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people (Stay 6 feet away).
  • Stay at home as much as possible.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover or a facemask.
  • Do not use a facemask that is meant for a healthcare worker.
Even if a person does not feel sick, they could spread COVID-19 to others.  Everyone should wear cloth face cover or a facemask when going out in public.

Coronavirus Disease Basics

What is a novel coronavirus?

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is not the same as the coronavirus that commonly circulates among us and causes the common cold or mild illness.  This is a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified.  Patients with COVID-19 are evaluated and cared for differently than patients with a common coronavirus diagnosis.

Why is it called COVID-19?

In COVID-19, 'CO' stands for 'corona,' 'VI' for 'virus,' 'D' for disease and '19' for '2019'. Formerly, this was referred to as "2019 novel coronavirus" or "2019-nCoV".  The name was selected based on World Health Organization (WHO)'s naming new human infectious diseases.

How COVID-19 spreads?

COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.  Spread is more likely when people are in close contact with one another, within about 6 feet.

Why are we seeing a rise in cases?

The cases are on the rise because of increased laboratory testing and reporting across the United States and other countries.

Can someone who has been quarantined spread it to others?

For COVID-19 quarantine is 14 days from the last date of exposure.  The incubation period for COVID-19 is 2 to 14 days.  Someone who has been quarantined is not considered a risk because they have not developed illness during the incubation period.
